Stars Come out to Shine

This simmering week in July, the famous people still had jewels on their mind:

Pianegonda would’ve been a home run at the Espys

Out to support boyfriend host Justin Timberlake at the 2008 Espys, Jessica Biel was a fashion failure! She has so much to work with: killer body, hot arm candy, and pretty face. The outfit wasn’t too bad but I would’ve added some jewels! What is that silly dish towel looking neckpiece she’s wearing? The Espys are the Oscars of the sports world. Step up your game a little bit. Not to mention, plenty of sight for sore eyes looking athletes. Then there’s Victoria Beckham. She also has a handsome man by her side, the drool-worthy soccer stud, David Beckham. Although I love the look vintage 1960s look she was going for, (channeling Audrey Hepburn or Jackie Kennedy), I would’ve loved to see more jewelry on her too. We aren’t actually running on the fields, ladies. Dress it up! To accent that adorable updo, Victoria needs some dangly earrings. Ladies, meet Pianegonda. A fancy, bold necklace by this fantasy driven jewelry designer would have changed the whole look of Jessica Biel and lit up her visage. For Mrs. Beckham, a contrasting color, like that of the purple amythest would have looked lovely against the pale yellow frock and Pianegonda would add a modern touch. Maybe a hair clip at the back of the updo would’ve added some pizazz. Some ice at the wrist is needed too. So girls, quit being plain jane! Put those wads of cash to use and ice yourself out, especially when attending an awards show!

With Ms. Biel, I would choose some bold Pianegonda sterling silver chain necklaces and layered them.

With Victoria, I would layer some amythest bracelets, drop earrings, and a ring all amythest and by Pianegonda.

Project Runway Food Fight

Playing with food: I hope that last night was not an indication of this year’s Project Runway Challenges! Although I was incredibly impressed by the talent (Kelly, the winner’s dress is something I would love as artwork to display in my home and the skirt is totally wearable). It’s just the challenge was not original. It was done previously in the first year. The concept was quite creative though, constructing clothing items out of a what you find in the grocery store. I think the judges really wanted to see pieces out of food but not a lot of designers were brave enough! This idea has also been done in jewelry.
Roberto Coin takes a salty snack like the pretzel and creates a white gold and diamond necklace, also note that it is similar to the one Carrie wore in an episode of Sex and the City. This unconventional designer also has a martini necklace complete with an olive and a wine or champagne cork made entirely of genuine diamonds! Aaron Basha, the charm king, does an enamel egg charm encrusted with icy white diamonds. Jrdunn.com features a gemstone charms modeled after a hot chili pepper and a juicy apple. So maybe this concept isn’t as new after all??

Not that you’d want to get food on this pretty pairing!

Aaron Basha Baby Shoes

Dress like a Dark Knight

Dare to be dark! Even as a girly girl, I can’t help but anticipate the new Batman: The Dark Knight. Is it because of a posthumous performance by Heath Ledger? Is it the special effects or the love triangle between Bruce Wayne, Dent and Rachel Dawes? Whatever the reason, we all know that fashion is easily influenced by what is currently going on in pop culture. We’ve already see latex leggings and ruffles. Be ahead of the bat pack, and try out some black jewels. Bold, trend-setting jeweler, Roberto Coin, often uses black sapphires, especially in his Fantasia Collection. Not only that, but he’s been brave enough to work black rubber into his pieces. John Hardy also experiments with sapphires of the ebony variety. Pianegonda plays with black diamonds. Go on and embrace your own Gotham City gorgeous!

Aaron Basha Baby Shoes

The stork is working overtime! The baby boom is in full effect. Brad and Angie said hello to twins, so did Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony. What is one of their gifts of choice? It’s an Aaron Basha charm. It makes sense as The Basha store is family operated and when visiting in New York, you may run into Aaron himself. Best known for the baby shoe charm, the gift is best when personalized with the new addition’s name engraved on the bottom. These tiny treasures do not forgo quality. Each one is crafted of 18K gold or platinum and the finest French enamel encrusted with diamonds and gemstones. At Mother’s Day, showing dedication to mothers and babies around the world, the company gave back by making a donation to UNICEF. The generous gift from this family of jewelers immunized 6,250 women! If there’s not a baby in your life, there are also many other Aaron Basha pendants, earrings, rings, and pins to complete your collection. In celebration of this year’s election, they even have a Democratic Donkey or Republican Elephant charm you can cast to show your support for your favorite party. Christmas in July: Designers who give back year-round!

Just because Chrismas is six months away doesn’t mean that you can’t give a little! I always say people that have money should spread the love! Well some of our favorite jewelry designers due just that. Let’s start with Mr. John Hardy. He is incredibly dedicated to the enriching our environment not only with his beautiful baubles but by planting bamboo trees. Mr. Hardy’s workshop in Bali isn’t just for making jewelry but also organic food. He has livestock, sugar cane, and rice paddies. The provisions produced provide his 700 plus employees with a healthful lunch. Secondly, we have Roberto Coin. His passion is all red. In addition to putting a ruby in each of his pieces, Roberto gives 5% of each sale to Youth AIDS. This do-gooder organization uses pop culture to stop the epidemic by educating kids in over sixty countries. The Coin man has also constructed a charm bracelet of the state of Africa to raise awareness. Then we’ve got Queen Leslie Greene. She sets out to make women feel good in her jewels but also donates to many organizations. She says she feels connected to women wearing her pieces. She gives to many many charities including: The Ovarian Research Fund and Susan G Komen for the Cure. You may not be placing a gift under the tree this time of year but you’re giving a gift to mankind just by buying jewelry!

Another connection to Bollywood is that most of the population of Bali is Hindu. JH’s exotic designs will drift you off to a tropical locale. His Kawung collection is modeled after the four petaled coffee flower. It looks awfully good with those rays of sunlit bouncing off and dresses up that swimsuit. So sip a cup of iced java poolside, work on your suntan, and admire your new striking new John Hardy jewels.

Stand Under Her Umbrella

Well down here in the tropics, the rain has started and the midwest is flooding. The original umbrella girl, Rihanna is quite fiery this moment! Her CD is so great, it is even being re-released as Good Girl Gone Bad Reloaded. Not only that, but she is becoming a fashionista in her own right. Her style is eclectic and eccentric, just like her voice. She accessorizes from head to toe (evidence is the electric neon nail polish), jewelry playing an important role in her look. Here I am showing you some items to recreate the jewelry look of this island princess and to cheer you up on those humid, rainy days…

Here she’s layering up a bunch of necklaces. I’m using a few Pianegonda necklaces to create the same effect:

We all just wanna be big rock stars…

…and live in hilltop houses driving fifteen cars! Summer is concert season. I’m merging the silversmith skills of Mr. John Hardy with loads of black. The look is heavy and loaded with silver bangles, leather, and silver hoops. Who better to produce your silver than a workshop in Bali? From the partying designer John Hardy (not related to Ed but just as rockin’) to your rockin’ body! Go ahead and strum your air guitar…

A bib and a onesie…

No not for babies! Bib necklaces are finding their place onto women’s necks all over! I’m placing it with a one-piece jumpsuit. This chain mail-esque Roberto Coin piece takes the dull out of gray days! Add the “I Love You More Bangle” by the same man so your wrist doesn’t get jealous. The whimsy of floral Marc Jacobs adorn your feet…
